Coronavirus: 22 hotels to serve as quarantine centres

A total of 22 hotels have already reached agreement with the government to serve as quarantine facilities for repatriating Cypriots, while efforts are underway to find more beds Phileleftheros reported on Saturday.

The 22 hotels have a capacity of 1700 beds and the target is 2000, it added.

All arrivals are subject to 14 day quarantine. A 14 day flight ban for passenger flights came into force at 3 am on Saturday but there is an exception allowing humanitarian flights which covers charter flights being organised by the government to repatriate those allowed to enter Cyprus under sweeping measures introduced to contain the spread of Covid-19.

Hotels have been ordered to closed. But an exception applies to those which reach agreement to serve as quarantine centres.

Four hotels are in the mountains and took in the first arrivals — Troodos Hotel, Rodon in Agros, Ekali in Kakopetria and Forest Park in Platres.

In Larnaca interest has been shown by Flamingo Beach Hotel, Lordos Beach Hotel and Aldiana. Flamingo Beach Hotel is a three star hotel with 64 rooms near the airport. The Lordos Beach Hotel is a four star hotel and Aldiana is in Alaminos and has had 664 beds.

In Limasol, among the hotels to sign up are Ajax Hotel with 170 rooms and the  Atlantica Oasis with 276.

In Paphos, the Aliathon, Daphne, Droushia and King’s have expressed an interest, the newspaper added.

It said that hoteliers have been informed by the government that they will receive €90 a day for a  double and €60 for a single to include three meals a day.
