Consumers Association: small, repeated rise in pump prices in April

In a repeat of March, April saw small but repeated increases in the retail price of petrol diesel and heating fuel, the Cyprus Consumers Association said.

Overall compared to March, the price of petrol 95 at the pump rose by 0.052 cent of a euro per litre. Diesel saw a smaller increase of 0.009 cent and heating fuel an increase of 0.013 cent per litre.

Since mid-January when prices were at their lowest to the end of April, the retail price for petrol 95 rose by 15.4 cent per litre, that of diesel by 8.5 cent per litre and of heating fuel by 9.7 cent.

From the higher prices in petrol 95 and diesel consumers paid an additional €64,609 in April compared to March — of which €57,238 for petrol and €7,371 for diesel.

Heating fuel in April rose by €12 per 1000 litres. The average price was €832 per 1000 litres on April 1 and €845 at the end of the month.

In April the average price of petrol 95 in the EU including taxes was €1.434 per litre and in Cyprus €1.194. Diesel in the EU averaged €1.353 and in Cyprus €1.246. Heating fuel in the EU averaged €0.826 and in Cyprus 0.832.

In the same month, the average retail price of petrol 95 in the EU without taxes was €0.564, same as in Cyprus. Diesel without tax in the EU was €0.618 per litre and in Cyprus €0.636. Heating fuel before tax in the EU was €0.574 and in Cyprus  €0.609.

The cheapest districts from April 1 to April 30 for petrol 95 was Nicosia, followed by Limassol, Famagusta and Larnaca. Paphos was the most expensive.  For diesel the cheapest was Nicosia, then Famagusta, Larnaca and Limassol with Paphos again the most expensive.
