Consultations on Monday aiming to avert fresh strike at Paphos Airport

Relevant News

Consultations will be held at the Transport Ministry around noon on Monday aiming to avert fresh labour unrest by ground staff at Paphos Airport, Philenews reports.

Last week, ground staff at the island’s second largest airport staged an impromptu strike over the extension of airport concessions.

The unrest is prompted by the fact that a new ground handling company is expected to take over the service of EasyJet and other airlines.

EasyJet, which operates many flights from the UK mainly to Paphos airport but also to Larnaca, had until recently been served by LGS Handling Ltd, which intends to lay off 70 workers at Larnaca airport and another 40 at Paphos airport.

This issue will be discussed at Monday’s meeting between Transport but aso Labour Ministry representatives and those of unions and the companies involved.
