Construction of new road to Limassol’s mountainous areas to begin soon

Relevant News

The construction of a new four-lane road that will link Limassol to Troodos villages will soon be underway and is expected to make a decisive contribution to  revitalising the mountainous regions of Limassol.

The executive engineer of the Department of Public Works, Xenia Kleopa said that plans for the construction project and all necessary documents for the new Limassol – Saittas road have already been prepared by private consultants and bids from private companies will be accepted this coming September.

The first step for the project will be the construction of the A1 Polemidia-Palodia phase, which will be 3.7 km long and will require a budgeted expenditure of €25 million. Construction of this phase is set to begin in early 2019.

The construction of the four-lane road, with a length of approximately 24 kilometres, will also include bridges and tunnels and its total cost is calculated at €160 million.

The chosen route follows that of the existing road up to Alassa. Then from the area before Zygos bridge, it follows a new route, east of the existing road, bypassing Alassa, Lania and Trimiklini and ending at Saittas. The works also include the construction of roadside lanes, the construction of side accesses, both entrances and exits and connecting roads to villages in the area as well as road lighting at junctions.

The Limassol – Saittas motorway will radically upgrade the district’s road network, particularly in the mountainous areas, and will make a decisive contribution to improving road safety, bearing in mind the many fatal road accidents that have occurred on the existing road.
