Concerts taking place at Petra tou Romiou a possibility in 2021

Relevant News

The government’s Environment Department has left open the possibility of live concerts taking place next year at Petra tou Romiou – one of the island’s most protected areas.

But independent environmental experts do not appear too keen over that possibility, Philenews reported on Tuesday.

Cultural events under the title “Path of Aphrodite” are scheduled between May and September 2021 and organisers have asked for that specific venue for some live concerts.

Petra tou Romiou, also known as Aphrodite’s rock, is the birthplace of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and fertility, and the whole area is under the Natura 2000 network.

Also under the protected area is nearby White Cape where one of the Falconidae family’s most rare birds – Eleonora’s Falcon (Falco Eleonorae) – comes from April till November to breed.

The possibility of cultural events in the area could endanger their settlement, according to environmentalists.

Authorities have proposed an environmental committee to be set up so as to keep monitoring the situation.

And for all protective to nature measures to be taken before  the temporary seating and stage gets to be erected at Petra tou Romiou.
