Cloudy with light showers and snowfall in mountains

Wednesday will be cloudy at intervals with local, mainly light showers and snowfall at intervals in the higher Troodos peaks as weak low pressure affects the area.

Police are urging drivers to be careful as roads in the mountains are slippery and there is fog, while the Prodromos-Troodos road is open only to four wheel drive cars and those equipped with snow chains.

Temperatures on Wednesday will rise to 12 C inland, around 13 C on the south and east coasts, 14 C on the remaining coasts and around 4 C in the mountains. Locally in the mountains there will be frost.

Tonight will be mainly cloudy with scattered light showers and light snowfall in the higher Troodos peaks at intervals. Temperatures will drop to 10 C inland, around 11 C on the coast and 3 C in the mountains where locally there will be frost.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be mainly cloudy and light local showers and light snowfall in the mountains are forecast, especially on Thursday and Saturday.

Temperatures are expected to remain at the same levels on Thursday but will edge down on Friday and Saturday to a little below average for the time of year.

The depth of snow at Troodos Square at the time of issue of the early morning weather bulletin was 69 cm.

Roads

Police said on Wednesday morning that the Prodromos-Troodos road is open only to four wheel drive cars and those equipped with snow chains.

They also warned that there are rock slides in parts of the Kakopetria-Pinewood-Pedoulas, the Pedoulas-Prodromos and Kykkos-Kambos.

Moreover, the Karvounas-Troodos and Platrres-Troodos roads are open but slippery and there is fog.

Police said that the road conditions, especially in the mountains, are changeable because of the wintry weather and drivers are urged to stay updated through the police app and webpage.
