Claims about exploitation of T/C properties

Relevant News

Former director of the Turkish Cypriot Properties Management Service, Makis Economides, said that members of the Service’s staff were warning illegal owners of T/C properties about decisions of the Service so that they would cover any discrepancies, while in the past there had been a conflict of interest in two cases.

The said cases of conflict of interest are also mentioned in a report by the Auditor General, noting that both cases involving an exchange of a T/C with a G/C property, were handled by two officers of the Service, whose spouse was working in a company related to each time interested company.

Furthermore, Service staff contacted their manager informing him of their intention to submit evidence on whether they or members of their families have T/C properties. However, some employees refused to do so, citing personal data. President of the House Refugee Committee Nikos Kettiros had asked the Service’s manager to submit a relevant list, recording possible refusal of employees to comply.

It is reminded that in February, the Mayor of Paphos had given specific examples of T/C properties given to a millionaire, to the son of an employee of the Service, to a woman who knows people in parties but has other property, and so forth.
