CIPA launches air links survey as airports opening moves closer

Relevant News

As part of efforts to support the business and investment community, Invest Cyprus (CIPA) is launching an online survey on air connectivity and its role in the country’s economic recovery.

Cyprus has banned commercial passenger flights since late March as part of a more general lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus.

A ministerial committee, working with the government’s team of scientific advisors, is now working on a plan of action to reopen the airports which will be submitted to the Council of Ministers next week.

Under the government’s road map easing the restrictive measures, flights are expected to resume in stage three — June 9 — gradually and under conditions.

In an announcement on Thursday, Invest Cyprus (Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency- CIPA) said that its survey will be conducted between May 14 – 17 and aims to identify the most important destinations and airport hubs for foreign investors that will allow access to global markets.

Invest Cyprus is inviting foreign companies and investors operating in Cyprus, as well as Cypriot professionals from all economic sectors who travel abroad on business, such as professional services, real estate and shipping to participate.

Any other interested company or entrepreneur is also invited to take part in the survey by visiting the organization’s website at www.investcyprus.org.cy

CIPA CEO George Campanellas said Invest Cyprus aimed to ensure that important business routes which are key to Cyprus’ economic recovery are included in destinations for which air-connectivity will be restored.

“As the Government’s Investment Authority, we have reshaped our action plan for the “day-after” while we have already submitted an official proposal to the President of the Republic suggesting ways to promote foreign direct investments in the country. The recovery will be achieved via external demand and it is of crucial importance to promptly resume air services with key markets,” he said.
