Relevant News

The Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING) is able to cope with the increased workload, as samples of suspected cases of coronavirus continue to reach CING for testing, the Chief Executive Medical Director of CING Leonidas Phylactou told the Cyprus News Agency.

Phylactou stressed that both the staff and the necessary equipment are available to test the samples.

Speaking in his capacity as the Greek Cypriot Head of the bi-communal Technical Committee on Health Affairs, Phylactou said that the members of the Committee are in constant communication with each other and exchange information and views on the situation on the island regarding coronavirus.

He was very clear in relation to the ability of CING to cope with the increasing workload. “Yes, we can cope with it. We have both the staff and the equipment” he said.

“There is an increase in samples and the flow is continuous. Every day there are new samples coming in that are immediately processed and completed” he said, adding that they can no longer refer to a specific number of samples as the number is increasing over time.

Asked about the four new confirmed coronavirus cases announced today, he said that “more confirmed cases are expected and the number will increase”.

Phylactou said that “now that the virus is in Cyprus and the number of positive samples is being increased, it is up to each Cypriot to take up responsibility for himself and for others.
