It will be mainly fine but chilly on Saturday, with some light showers and snowfall in the mountains, as high pressure and a cold air mass affect the area.
Sunday and Monday will be even colder with temperatures significantly below the seasonal average.
Roads to Troodos are closed to traffic because of snowfall while a number of other roads in the mountains are open only to four wheel drive cars or those equipped with snow chains.
Weather forecast
In its early morning weather bulletin, the Met Office said that Saturday will be mainly fine but there will be increased cloud at intervals which are expected to lead to local light showers. In the mountains there will be snow or sleet.
Winds will be northwesterly medium to strong, becoming very strong. Temperatures will be 12 C inland, around 14 C on the coast and -2 in the mountains where there will be frost.
Tonight will be mainly fine but there will be increased cloud at intervals. Temperatures will fall to 1 C inland, around 5 C on the east and north coasts, around 3 C on the west and south coasts and -8 in the higher mountains. Frost is expected in the mountains, the semi mountainous areas and some lowland and coastal areas.
Sunday and Monday will be mainly fine and will remain cold. There will be increased cloud at intervals and in the mountains and semi-mountainous areas it will snow. Sleet in possible in some lowland and coastal areas.
Tuesday will be partly cloudy with scattered showers at intervals and snowfall in the mountains.
Temperatures will edge down on Sunday and remain at the same levels on Monday which are noticeably below the seasonal average. Temperatures will edge up on Tuesday.
The depth of snow at Troodos Square this morning was 70 cm.
Roads
All roads to Troodos are closed on Saturday morning because of snowfall, police said.

– Pedoulas-Kykkos
– Moutoullas-Pedoulas-Prodromos
– Prodromos-Platres
– Prodromos-Lemythou
– Spylia-Kanavvia
– Palechori-Agros
Drivers in the mountains are urged to be particularly careful, to drive slowly, keep a safe distance from other cars and give way to other vehicles where necessary.
Police said that road conditions in the mountains are changeable because of the weather and the public is urged to stay up to date from the police app or on its website.
