Cautious optimism, but lockdown must continue, says expert

Relevant News

The trend as regards positive coronavirus cases gives grounds for cautious optimism, but it is too early for a definitive picture,  Dr Irini Christaki, a university professor and member of the Health Ministry’s scientific committee on coronavirus told the Cyprus News Agency on Tuesday.

“With the data of the past few days and with the decrease in positive cases, there is cautious optimism. But we must wait until next week to see whether this continues,” she said.

Christaki spoke of a relative stabilisation in the past few days, noting that scientists are waiting to see the curve flatten, and then drop.

The next few days will show whether we are at this point which we would like to believe we are, she added.

Asked about the possible relaxation of the lock down, she said that strict measures must remain in April.

“At the end of April and depending on the epidemic, a decision should be taken if possible to loosen some of the measures. There must be gradual relaxation, if this is possible,” she said.
