Catering and leisure sector representatives are calling for the immediate implementation of compensatory measures so as to survive sky-rocketing prices in energy and raw materials.
In a meeting in Limassol on Tuesday representatives from approximately 280 restaurants and leisure centers from all across Cyprus exchanged views on the unaffordable and exorbitant amounts they have to shoulder these days.
And they sent the message that survival of their businesses is in serious doubt.
At the same time, lost turnover is also recorded since consumers do not spend the same way they did in the past. Because of the ever-rising inflation and costs.
One of the representatives, Demetris Tsangaras, said the situation is tragic and gave as an example the electricity bill for the establishment he runs in Limassol over the past two months.
Specifically, he has to pay €25,000 now compared to €12,000 the same period the year before.
“Something has to be done, this situation cannot continue,” he said before stressing that they can neither switch off the refrigerators nor the air conditioners.
Because they will have no customers for years on end, he added.
