Carer in custody for suspected arson of British woman’s home in Limassol

A 33 year-old from Portugal is in police custody following a suspected case of arson at the Limassol home of his employer —  a 54 year old, disabled Briton.

The incident took place on Wednesday in Ypsonas, Limassol. According to Phileleftheros, the neighbours noticed the fire around 6 pm and called the fire department.

The 54 year-old woman was not injured, however, the fire caused extensive damage to the appliances, furniture and the paint of the house.

The police discovered evidence indicating the fire was malicious, Phileleftheros reported. It said the woman had told investigators that her carer had been pressing her to sell her house and threatened that he would burn it down if she did not.

The police arrested the man who appeared before Limassol District Court on Thursday which ordered that he be remanded  in custody for eight days. He denies any involvement.
