Cabinet approves ‘entry card’ for schools

Cabinet on Tuesday approved the introduction of a special card that will be issued to parents and guardians who take and pick up children from schools.

The cards will be issued by the school management to individuals authorised to pick up school pupils. Details as to its use will be announced soon.

It is one of three measures designed to improve security at schools, the cost of which is expected to exceed €10m.

Education Minister Costas Kadis said that other the decision on the ‘entry card’ cabinet had decided on the repair of school fencing and the installation of  intercoms at entrances to regulate who comes in.

The third decision is the use of guards at kindergartens and primary schools between 7 am and 8 am.

Kadis said implementation of the measures will begin immediately.
