During yesterday’s House Transport Committee, the need to evaluate the appropriateness of mass media and the safe transportation of citizens on them was discussed, after the serious mechanical failure of an intercity bus on 25 June.
The bus that was going from Nicosia to Limassol had a technical problem without, however, any problem being caused to its passengers.
Following instructions by the Transport Minister, the bus underwent a technical inspection during which it was ascertained that the necessary quality standards were not met. As a result, the bus has been withdrawn from circulation.
Road Transport officer Andreas Nikiforou, provided details to the Committee adding after the incident all buses that left from Nicosia were checked and no problems had been found. He also noted that over the coming days all buses of the same company will undergo technical inspections, at the instructions of the Transport Minister.
