British Cypriot’s Akamas death due to drowning because of lung condition

A 62 year old British Cypriot who died during a boat excursion to the Akamas drowned as a result of a serious lung condition, a post-mortem has shown.

The post-mortem was carried out by state pathologist Eleni Antoniou in the presence of Marios Matsakis, representing the family.

Matsakis said the 62 year old had a serious lung condition and had been advised not to go into the water.

The incident occurred on Monday when during a boat excursion from Kato Paphos to the Akamas, the boat dropped anchor at the Blue Lagoon and a number of passengers, including the man,  took a swim.

The 62 year old, who was on a family holiday in Paphos, felt unwell and was taken by speedboat to Latchi and from there by ambulance to Polis Chrysochous Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
