Transport Minister Vassiliki Anastasiadou said on Tuesday that legislation for bicycles will be changed to include scooters as well.
Speaking after a meeting, Anastasiadou said that the law will include a minimum age and specific regulations for those who wish to use a scooter.
According to the Transport Minister the minimum age for scooter users may be set at the age of 16.
The law will outline the specific areas in which scooter users will be allowed while local authorities will be given full power to allow or forbid scooter users within their jurisdiction.
No decision was taken on whether insurance coverage should be compulsory and further discussions are expected on the issue.
Anastasiadou finally said that the amendments to the law will be in place soon and will be reviewed by the legal service before being voted by the plenum.
