A three month only baby and a health care worker working in the ICU unit of Makarios Hospital have both tested positive for coronavirus, the state health services organisation (Okipi) confirmed late on Monday.
But it said that the baby’s condition had not deteriorated as a result of the virus and assured parents that the ward has been disinfected and is working normally and safely.
It added that all remaining health care workers at the ICU had tested negative as have all the newborns and babies with the exception of the three month old who has been transferred to a special ward.
“The management of the hispital and especially the pediatric clinic understands the concern of the families of hospitalised newborns and children and assures them that all necessary measures are being taken for their safe hospitalisation,” it said.
