The municipality of Ayios Athanassios is launching its second awareness campaign for its citizens, aiming to change the habit of using plastic bags.
It will be offering free reusable bags to residents outside supermarkets and fruit markets in the area.
The campaign is organised in cooperation with the European Commission representation in Cyprus and Environment Commissioner’s office, in the context of the environmental actions of the municipality for 2018.
Reusable bags will be offered for free to shoppers at the supermarkets Karseras (the Corner Shop), Sofronis Frantzis, Plus, Orange, STK Tirkas, Loizos & Sons fruit market and C.M.S. Frutopia.
Apart from reusable bags the municipality will also hand out a leaflet with information on the use of plastic, the impact it has on the environment and how it is managed after it is thrown away.
The leaflet will also include data on the production of plastic waste in Cyprus and how it is managed.
