Ayia Napa Municipality hopes to make the Guinness Book of Records with a ‘mass wedding’ event to be held at one of its beaches in February 2019, while top Chinese travel agents are due to attend a conference in the coastal resort in October.
It is part of a charm offensive announced by Mayor Yiannis Karousos as the popular resort moves to further boost its profile and attract tourists from China.
Speaking at a press conference on the occasion of the 34th Ayia Napa international festival, Karousos said that Ayia Napa would be opening an office in Hong Kong and has also entered into three agreements with Guangdong. As from next year, the festival will feature cultural events from China.
The municipality’s office in Hong Kong is being opened in cooperation with C.G.A Cyprus Guangdong Association of Commerce to further build on the tourist alliance of the two countries.
Ayia Napa will be hosting a tourist conference in October with the participation of 10 of the largest travel agencies of China.
