Ten irregular migrants crossed into the government controlled areas near Athienou on Friday night and have been taken to the temporary accommodation centre at Kokkinotrimithia.
Police said that about 7.30 pm on Friday the 10 adults, all from Syria, went to Athienou police station and asked for political asylum.
Officials from the asylum service, immigration officers and officials from the civil defence processed the asylum seekers and they were then transferred to Kokkinotrimithia.
