New measures by the government aiming to curb the spread of the coronavirus in Cyprus come in effect at 6am on Friday but the prevailing public feeling is that of discontent, Philenews reports.
“Same failed strategy measures” is more or less the headline prevailing in Thursday’s press as restaurant and café owners already slammed the imminent almost total lockdown.
The new coronavirus regime, effective up to December 31, was announced after an extraordinary meeting by Cabinet and basically provides that the island-wide curfew between 9.00 pm and 5.00 am continues.
However, the operation of all catering businesses – restaurants, taverns, cafeterias, pubs, snack bars, and bars, coffee shops, catering businesses within malls, canteens and/or sports clubs, cultural associations, clubs etc – is now also suspended.
Delivery – even after 9pm – and take away up until that time is allowed, however.
Another novelty in the measures is that no faithful at all will be allowed to attend mass in person. And all lyceum students will be taught online as of Monday.
Just like before, excluded from the curfew are those going to and from work and for work purposes, with use of the employee movement form.
As well as people going to a medical centre or hospital or pharmacy or vet for urgent medical reasons.
In addition, movement of hunters to and within a non-prohibited hunting area as set out in the law from 3.00 am, only on days when hunting is permitted. They must have their hunter’s licence with them.
The message by health authorities is that measures will be reviewed regularly and amendments are not ruled out.
