Authorities believe arson is behind the fire that broke out on Tuesday afternoon in Steni-Akourdalia area – five-six kilometers only from the sea of Polis Chrysochous in Paphos.
This is what Philenews reported on Wednesday, adding that investigations after the fire was extinguished show that this was set maliciously, and in three different points.
The fire had threatened residential properties but was put out promptly, according to Fire Service spokesman Andreas Kettis who described it as a clear case of arson.
He also said that the entire firefighting force of the Paphos district was mobilized to combat the latest case. And that it was even deemed essential to call in forces from coastal Larnaca to cover the needs of Paphos dostrict.
Kettis has also described the frequency of fires these past few days as unprecedented. All firefighters are working 24 hours a day to cope with successive fires breaking out from one district to another.
