The Archbishopric plans to change the use of three listed buildings next to the Cathedral on Isokratous Street in old Nicosia that were almost demolished last year.
Τhat’s why they wish to preserve only the external walls of these buildings, Philenews reports.
Even though the Archbishop himself has committed to their rebuilding, he does not wish them to reopen as residences but he rather wants to create a synodical.
This includes a gallery and a canteen where the guests can drink their coffee after the Cathedral mass.
As a result, the internal walls were not reconstructed, something that has concerned technicians since the future stability of the buildings is of concern.
George Arapoglou, the Press Officer of the Municipality of Nicosia, said they have not yet received a formal request and an application for a change of use of the buildings but that a preliminary discussion has taken place.
Athina Aristotelous, who undertook the supervision of the construction, said the Archbishopric is awaiting the position of the Municipality of Nicosia on their plans.
