Animal Party to deliver report on animal welfare to President

An Animal Party delegation will deliver a report on animal welfare to President Anastasiades on October 4, World Animal day, a party statement said.

After visiting the Presidential Palace, the party delegation will visit the two presidential dogs to offer them various ‘goodies’.

The report will highlight issues such as zoos, exotic animals, illegal or legitimate imports of exotics, pending regulations at the Attorney General’s Office, the question of animal police, the success of the government’s sterilization programme and what will ultimately be done with the issues of farm animals, slaughterhouses, transport of livestock etc.

Additionally, APC will hold events in all cities for World Animal Day.

Limassol:

Members of APC will set up a small pavilion and distribute information material on animal welfare legislation, procedures for reporting cruelty cases, information on dog shelters in Limassol and how citizens can adopt dogs etc.

Paphos:

At the Castle Square at Kato Paphos, Animal Party Cyprus in collaboration with the Hope for Strays dog shelter will arrange to distribute leaflets and at the same time there will be rescued dogs available for adoption from the above shelter.

Larnaca:

Presentation on “How can you become the best friend of your best friend”. The presentation will be given by the Dog Behaviorist Abraham Themistocleous. The presentation will be held at the Flamingo Hotel in Larnaca from 18.30 to 19.30.

Famagusta:

Animal Party Cyprus in cooperation with the Private Veterinary Clinic Medved (Paralimni) clinic will be offering free microchip placement and free registration with the veterinary services (electronically) system. The offer will be for one person, one dog. Also leaflets and other informative material will be distributed.

World Animal Day was first celebrated in 1931 at a conference of environmentalists in Florence, as a way of raising awareness of endangered animals.

It is celebrated on October 4, feast day of Saint Assisi, the patron saint of animals in the Catholic Church.
