The Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) yesterday carried out an operation to save the passengers of a vessel in danger.

In a statement, JRCC said that it received information regarding an endangered vessel with more than 300 people on, sailing at a distance of 110 nautical miles west off Paphos, within the territorial waters of the Republic of Cyprus.

The Center proceeded with the implementation of the TEVKROS Special National Plan, initially mobilizing a helicopter of the National Guard to confirm the risk. Then, various boats were sent to the scene, assisted by commercial ships which were in the area.

Upon the conclusion of the operation, all rescued passengers embarked safely on the PAOLO TOPIC ship sailing under the flag of the Marshall Islands.
