Relevant News

Decisions taken by the government could be undone by citizens if a new amended bill to go before parliament soon gets voted in, Philenews reported on Thursday.

The pre-condition is for a total of 5,000 signatures to be collected before a decision goes before parliament again to be debated and possibly get undone.

The issue was discussed on Wednesday by the House Legal Committee following a proposal tabled by opposition Diko MP Christiana Erotocritou.

The new proposal basically amends the “2016 Law on Citizens’ Parliamentary Legislative Initiative (Procedure, Terms and Conditions of Submission) and Related Matters”.

In his statements, head of the Legal Committee, Nicos Tornaritis, said the EU has already established the European citizens’ initiative.

This initiative European citizens to bring an issue to the European Parliament for discussion after one million signatures are collected.
