The aim of Cyprus at the forthcoming European Council will be “to save the credibility and dignity of Europe, European citizens, and Cyprus”, Cyprus’ President Nikos Anastasiades said on Tuesday.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of an event, in Nicosia, and asked if the circumstances have changed, President Anastasiades said “nothing has changed”.
Asked if Cyprus would be calling for sanctions against Turkey in order to concede to sanctions against Belarus, President Anastasiades said the purpose was not sanctions, but for Turkey to finally meet its obligations as an EU candidate country to be in line with the principles and values of the EU.
President Anastasiades said Cyprus was not aware of any formulas being prepared by the EU if Turkey did not comply.
