Agathangelou resigns from HIO board following Chamber’s decision

In a written statement, Dr. Petros Agathangelou, president of the Cyprus Medical Association, who has recently been appointed to the board of the Health Insurance Organization (HIO), announced his decision to resign from this position, after the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce, on Wednesday decided to withdraw its proposal for his appointment.

Dr. Agathangelou expressed his disappointment with the Chamber’s decision but noted that the decisions of its collective bodies are respected.

In his statement he noted that his appointment would have given a voice to the medical community and would have been an opportunity to remove an injustice against doctors who are not institutionally represented at the board.
