Only four out of 10 hotels will remain open over the winter months of November-March, with the free Famagusta area being particularly affected by seasonality Phileleftheros reported on Sunday.
It said that of a total of 410 hotels and tourist complexes, only 173 or 42% of the total will remain year-round. This is up on last year’s 38.6% when 157 of 406 hotels remained open.
The paper noted that many hoteliers used last year’s low season for renovations. According to the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, the number this year is much lower.
The free Famagusta area is the most affected by seasonality problems with only 8% due to remain open over winter. In Paphos, the figure is a much higher 64%, in Larnaca 67% and in Limassol 57.6%, Phileelftheros added.
