£50,000 wedding up in the air after Thomas Cook collapse

Thousands of holidaymakers have been left reeling from the collapse of Thomas Cook, some stranded on holiday others facing the daunting prospect of changing their holiday plans, even weddings

According to the Daily Mail, Peter Whyman and his fiancée, Katy Williams were planning a £50,000 wedding in Ayia Napa which could go up in smoke.

The couple is due to get married on October 2, but due to recent events flights and hotels arranged for 48 guests are at risk and the brides terminally ill mother cannot fly over to Cyprus for her daughter’s big day, the newspaper reported.

“I’m not sleeping. It’s horrible. I’m just numb. My head is in the clouds. It’s the not knowing and the fact we can’t do anything about it’ says Katy Williams.

Peter Whyman, said: ‘I have been working every bit of overtime I could do for the last 18 months so my fiancé has a dream wedding.

‘We have phoned our travel agents and they didn’t know what is happening. We have phoned the hotel direct to try finding out if the hotel has been paid for in case we just need to book different flights – but still no info.”

More than 150,000 British holidaymakers who are abroad will have to be repatriated back to the UK and the CAA and the government has announced it will aim to get them back home by October 6.
