49 beachgoers booked, 39 of them in Limassol

Seeking respite from Sunday’s sizzling heat at the beach turned out to be an expensive experience for 49 beachgoers found by police to be breaking a decree that stipulates that only swimming is allowed.

Overall, police carried out 4860 checks on pedestrians and booked 93 — 49 of them at the beach for sunbathing or playing rackets.

Of the 49 beachgoers issued out of court fines, five were in Paphos, 37 in Limassol, three in Larnaca, and four in Famagusta.

Police issued 12 fines in Nicosia. In Limassol and in Famagusta, police issued nine and 23 fines in addition to those issued to beachgoers.

Police also carried out 778 checks on premises. They booked three people for gathering at a house in the Famagusta area — the owner and two guests. They also booked a priest for breaking the decree setting a maximum of 10 people in the church at a given time.
