A 30 year old man is under arrest on suspicion of attempted robbery, carrying a knife and assault.
Police said that the man, a non-Cypriot who entered and has been living in the Republic of Cyprus illegally, went into into a garden of a house in Nicosia at around 11.30 pm and threatened the owner with a knife, demanding money.
He fled when the owner said he would call the police.
The suspect then reportedly went to another building, knife in hand, and again asked for money. He fled again on being told that they did not have any money.
Police who went to scene found the man and arrested him for possessing a knife.
Investigations continue.
