An 83 year old German tourist has died in hospital in Turkish-held north Cyprus, the second coronavirus related death there.

Turkish Cypriot authorities said the woman had been hospitalised on March 20 and taken to the intensive care unit on March 24. She had underlying health problems and died on Wednesday morning.

The first death, that of a 73 year old German tourist, a man with an underlying medical condition, was reported four days ago.

Both were part of a group of tourists that were all diagnosed with the virus, from the first day of their arrival.

A total of 70 people in northern Cyprus have tested positive for coronavirus, of whom 31 are German tourists.

Eight people have died and 262 have tested positive in the government controlled areas of Cyprus.
