A 26 year old man from the free Famagusta area was arrested on Saturday in relation to a case of child pornography and remanded in custody for five days on Sunday by the Famagusta District Court to facilitate questioning by the police, the CNA reports.
According to the police, investigations into the case were launched after relevant information was sent by Europol to the cybercrime arm of the Cyprus Police.
As per the information, a social media account had uploaded an image file with content pertaining to sexual harassment of minors.
Subsequent investigations by the Office for Combating Cybercrime (OCC) pointed to the 26-year-old.
After securing a search warrant, police searched the man’s home in Famagusta district and confiscated a mobile phone, a tablet and a laptop to perform forensic tests.
In addition, the suspect has been arrested to facilitate questioning.
The OCC is investigating.
