Paphos police had to fire warning shots in the air after a 21 year old Cypriot driver attempted to avoid being checked on the Tala-Emba road on Sunday evening.
Philenews reports that the young man ignored a police signal to stop and instead sped off toward Emba, police in pursuit.
At some point, police fired three warning shots in the air and the driver abandoned the car and tried to flee on foot, but was caught and arrested.
He told police he had tried to escape because he does not have a driver’s licence.
Police searched his car and found an electric discharge weapon and brass knuckles, both of which are illegal.
He was arrested as police investigations continue.
