This year, the 1st May falls on the Saturday before Orthodox Easter, one of the busiest days of the year, but due to a relevant provision in the Health Ministry’s last decree aiming to contain the pandemic, the supermarkets’ union has asked its members to close on the specific day.
As known the union was putting pressure on the Labor Ministry to allow shops to open on that day but Labor Minister Emilianidou was dead against it, so the union had asked those of its members who wanted to open.
However, as the union’s executive secretary Andreas Hadziadamou said, they will respect the decree and will try to serve their customers as best as they can on Friday.
