738 lawyers went through Disciplinary Council; 139 in last year

Disciplinary cases against lawyer increase continuously, while recently a decision was made to release them without names. At the same time, the big bet for the president of the lawyers is still the reform of Justice.

According to data presented yesterday, during the presentation of the work of the new Administrative Council of the Bar Association, there have been 139 complaints against lawyers.

As Council member Alexia Kountouri said, when the new Council took over, there were 630 cases pending since 2008 and the Council so far has dealt with 274 of them.

Christos Clerides, President of the lawyers said that efforts are taking place to reinforce the institution of mediation and arbitration so that Cyprus can become a center of arbitration in the wider region. He also said that one of the primary targets of the Council is to upgrade the role of lawyers into officers of Justice, main pillars of the rule of law.
