The upward trend in the weekly positivity rate for COVID-19 seems to have come to a halt this week, it remains however in relatively high levels, according to the findings of theĀ National Surveillance ReportĀ until March 23, 2021, published on Friday. According to the Ministry of Health, there is a small decline in Limassol District, with the positivity rate dropping to 1%, from 1.3% last week.
According to the data, there are no patient admissions from nursing homes.
Most hospital admissions are people under 60 years and Limassol residents. Between March 1-24, 17 people died, with COVID as the underlying cause. 88% of them were Limassol residents.
In particular, as of March 23rd, 2021, a total of 42,028 COVID-19 cases have been diagnosed, of which 248 died due to COVID-19. The case fatality risk stands at 0.6%.
In the last 14 days (10 ā 23 March, 2021), 5,093 cases were diagnosed. The 14-day cumulative diagnosis rate is 573.5 per 100,000 population. The median age was 36 years; 51.2% were females (2,608), 48.8% males (2,483), and for 2 cases information is not currently available. By place of exposure, 1.2% (63) were imported and 98.8% (5,030) were locally-acquired.
Until March 24th, 2021, 233 people were still hospitalized (currently notified). The median age of patients still hospitalized as of March 24th, 2021 (233, including those discharged on that day) is 62 years, 58.8%Ā (137) are males, and 63.1% (147) are from Limassol district. Hundred- forty-eight cases (65.5%) still hospitalised have comorbidities.
Of 26 cases in intensive care units (ICU), who are currently notified, 23 were intubated. The median age of current ICU patients is 68 years and 18 (69.2%) are males. Twenty-two (84.6%) patients currently in ICU have pre- existing conditions.
Over the last 14 days, 53,754 RT PCR and 541,635 rapid antigen tests have been performed (6,053.4 RT PCR and 60,994.9 rapid antigen tests per 100,000Ā population).
Up to March 23rd, 2021, 42,028 cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been diagnosed. In the last 14 days (10 – 23 March, 2021), 5,093 cases have been diagnosed. The 14- day cumulative diagnosis rate of COVID-19 (per 100,000 population), a measure which reflects the number of active COVID-19 cases in the population, is 573.5 per 100,000 population.
Among all cases diagnosed in the last 14 days, 2,806 (55.1%) were reported in Limassol district, 1,238 (24.3%) in Nicosia, 489 (9.6%) in Larnaka, 308 (6%) in Paphos, 176 (3.5%) in Famagusta, and 76 (1.5%) were reported either in the British bases or had a residence abroad, or information was not available.
In the last 14 days (10 – 23 March, 2021), of 5,093 cases sampled and notified, 1.2% (63) were imported and 98.8% (5,030) were locally-acquired. 30.3% (1,542) reported no symptoms at diagnosis and 69.7% (3,551) reported at least one symptom. Moreover, 1,234 cases (24.2%) reported at least one comorbidity.
Deaths
Among cases, 248 COVID-19 associated deaths were reported in the Republic of Cyprus until March 24th, 2021, with a Case Fatality Risk (CFR) of 0.6%. The COVID-19 associated mortality is 27.9 per 100,000 population.
Deaths occurred in 165 men (66.5%) and 83 (33.5%) women; the median age of all COVID-19 associated deaths was 81 years.
Among cases, 300 deaths (all causes) were reported in the Republic of Cyprus until March 24th, 2021, with a CFR of 0.7%. The mortality (all-causes) for people with COVID-19 is 33.8 per 100,000 population. Deaths occurred in 203 men (67.7%) and 97 (32.3%) women; the median age of all deaths was 81 years.
In total, 5.4% (2,276) of people with COVID-19 received hospital care, by March 24th, 2021. The median age of hospitalized patients was 64 years. Hospitalized cases were mainly males (1,323; 58.1%).
The median age of patients still hospitalized up to March 24th, 2021 (233, including those discharged on that day) is 62 years, 58.8% (137) are males, and 63.1% (147) are from Limassol district. Hundred-forty-eight cases (63.5%) still hospitalised have comorbidities.
Overall, 226 cases (9.9% of all hospitalized patients) have been admitted to ICU. The median age of patients ever admitted to ICU was 69 years. ICU patients were mainly male (157; 69.5%). The overall median length of stay in ICU (for all ICU cases) was 13 days.
Until March 24th, 2021, among cases alive, 83.5% (34,834) of COVID-19 cases have recovered/released from isolation.
