1342 civil weddings in Paphos Municipality in 2019

Relevant News

Paphos Municipality generated €722,000 from 1372 civil weddings in 2019, municipality official Lia Costi told the Cyprus News Agency on Monday.

She said that there were 104 fewer civil weddings than the previous year, primarily because of Brexit and the collapse of Thomas Cook. In 2017, a total of 1,270 civil weddings were carried out at Paphos Municipality venues.

Of the 1342 couples choosing to tie the knot in Paphos, 80% were from the UK, 15% from Israel and remaining 5% of different nationalities, including Cypriots marrying non-Cypriots, or non-Cypriots who live in Cyprus.

The preferred venues were the town hall and other locations within the municipal boudnaries such as hotels, the coastal area as well as Lemba Vrisi — an old fountain set in an oasis of green, with a bridge and wild vegetation.

She added that some civil weddings are carried out on boats, at Kato Paphos port and the Ethnographic Museum. Another possible location in Chlorakas is being looked into so that the weddings can be carried out in cooperation with the Chlorakas community council.
