A protracted heatwave affecting Cyprus will be running through to early August, as a seasonal low pressure system continues to bring soaring temperatures, with the Met Office issuing it’s tenth yellow warning over the past two weeks.
The warning is in place from 11 in the morning until 17 in the afternoon, with 41 degrees Celsius expected inland and more than 33 in most of the coastal regions.
So clear skies and extreme heat today, with light variable winds force three, later turning southwesterly to northwesterly, light to moderate force three to four and strong force four to five in the afternoon in southern coastal regions, over calm to slight seas.
41 Celsius inland, 31 over western and southwestern coastal regions, 34 in the rest of the coastal areas and 33 on the mountains.
Humidity will remain at high levels.
Clear skies this evening over most areas, with low cloud expected over western coastal regions and thin mist mainly in the southeast.
Winds will be light southwesterly to northwesterly force two to three, over calm to slight seas, with temperatures dropping to 22 Celsius inland and over the mountains and 24 in coastal regions.
The heatwave will run into August according to the forecast, with the over 40s persisting to at least next Thursday, as temperatures remain well above the seasonal average.
Vulnerable groups of the population, including children, the elderly and people with chronic illnesses are advised to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.
