Ukraine wins Eurovision Song Contest

Last night Ukraine won the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest in a huge show of support from the rest of the European countries, following Russia’s invasion of the country.

With the folk-rap song Stefania, written about the frontman’s mother, Kalush Orchestra beat off strong competition from the UK and Italy. The UK’s Sam Ryder took second place, the first time the UK has been in the top three at the Eurovision Song Contest in 20 years.

Greece, with an impressive performance by Amanda Georgiades, received 158 points from the committees and 57 points from the public and ended up in the eighth position.
