Nine dead, 30 missing in Aegean shipwreck

At least nine people died and another 25 are missing after a migrant boat shipwrecked in the Aegean Sea near Izmir, according to Turkish news agency Anadolu.

The only known survivor is a woman of Iraqi descent who managed to save herself by swimming to the Turkish coast to ask for help from the army.

The woman arrived at 11:45 pm yesterday at an army camp with wet clothes and wearing a life jacket and said that the boat had begun its journey at 8 pm with 35 people, until it began to sink.

The Turkish coastguard is currently searching for the missing persons.

So far, it has able to find the bodies of nine people.
