Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias on Monday morning is meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Salonica, according to an official announcement.
The talks will focus on bilateral, regional and international issues, with emphasis on the Greek-U.S. Strategic Dialogue, defence and energy cooperation.
Developments in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region will also come under the microscope, the announcement also said.
The visit is of high political importance due to the developments in the Greek-Turkish relations.
Some media reports say the visit of the US top diplomat reflects Washington’s desire to de-escalate tensions in the eastern Mediterranean Sea.
