Germany new Covid cases drop for 2nd day-no further relaxation

Germany’s confirmed coronavirus cases increased by 2,055 to 152,438, data from the Robert Koch Institute for infectious diseases showed, – a second day of deceleration after three days of acceleration in new infections.

Υesterday, confirmed coronavirus cases had increased by 2,337.

The reported death toll rose by 179 to 5,500.

Yesterday, the country’s health services warned against further relaxation of restrictions, noting that any further lifting of measures, would only take place if new cases are down to a few hundreds per day.

Chancellor Merkel is facing pressure from several federal states to further relax restrictions, after opening smaller shops and certain larger businesses on Monday, including car dealerships and bookshops.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people who live in Poland and work in Germany protested in the southwestern Polish border town of Zgorzelec against a mandatory coronavirus quarantine for those who cross the border.
