New record high for Cyprus tourism

Tourist arrivals in November role by an annual 9.7% to 158,685 from 144,676 in the same month the previous year, which is the highest ever for the month.

Moreover, tourist arrivals for the first 11 months also set a record, rising an annual 7.8%  to total 3,832,062 compared to 3,553,149  in the corresponding period in 2017. This again is the highest ever recorded for the period.

The statistical service said that arrivals from Greece rose an annual 14.2% in November while those from Germany jumped an annual 19%. There was a 2.4% drop in arrivals from the UK, while arrivals from Russia edged down 0.2%.

The UK remained the biggest source of tourism for Cyprus in November, accounting for 31.5% of the total, followed by Russia with a 13.5% share, Greece with 9.8% and Germany with 9.7%.

Of the total, 70% of visitors came for a holiday, 15.6% to visit friends or family and 14.3% for business reasons.

The Cyprus Tourism Organisation said that November’s was the 41st consecutive monthly increase which translates into three and half years of increased arrivals.

Over the 12 months period of December 2016 to November 2018, total arrivals reached to 3,930,986 which is the best 12 months in the history of Cyprus tourism.

As regards the main markets for the period January to November 2018, UK arrivals were up an annual 5.7% while those from Greece rose 9.5%. The increase from Nordic countries was 12.7%, while those Poland rose by 57.7%, from Ukraine by +46.8%, from Romania by 38.9%, by Slovakia by +137%, from Switzerland by 27.8%, from the US by 55.8% and from Ireland by 180%.
