New portal on Mediterranean extreme weather launches March 15

A free web portal covering real time extreme weather in the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean will open to the public on March 15, 2020 and can be accessed via the link http://bertiss.eu/.

According to an announcement by Frederick University Cyprus on Friday, the portal will be operated by the first transnational service to process atmospheric and meteorological data via GPS in Cyprus as well as the wider Balkan and Eastern Mediterranean area.

The service is the result of the research project BeRTISS (Balkan – Mediterranean Real Time Severe Weather Service) managed by the Frederick Research Center (FRC).

The produced data is expected to be used by weather forecasters to improve the accuracy of weather forecasts in existing meteorological models.

The Service will be housed in a new data analysis centre in the Frederick Research Centre premises.
