New MoH decree sets cap for face mask price, eases measures on exercise

The Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou issued a new decree on Friday capping the price of face masks and Coronavirus tests and allows new forms of exercise in open-air facilities for sports such as climbing, tennis, golf and horse riding.

The new maximum wholesale price (including VAT) for plain surgical masks is €31 per 50 pieces and that for a Coronavirus test is €85 (excluding VAT) not taking into account existing contracts signed with the state.

The decree allows individual exercise, namely walking, swimming, cycling, in open spaces given that no more than two people exercise together. Underage children of exercising parents are excluded from this rule.

In addition, individual exercise in open-air facilities is allowed for the following low-risk sports:

(i) tennis
(ii) golf
(iii) horse riding
(iv) shooting
(v) archery
(vi) underwater activity
(vii) mountaineering-climbing
(viii) air sports
(ix) motorsports, given that only one athlete is allowed in each motor vehicle
(x) sea sports, namely sailing, canoeing and kayaking, given that only one athlete is allowed on each boat

It was emphasised that for the above sports, no more than two people are allowed in the same facility, use of locker rooms, gyms and any other indoor sports facilities is prohibited and all hygiene measures should be adhered to as per the instructions of the Health Ministry and the Cyprus Sports Organisation (KOA).
