Update: MoE extends student grant deadline, announces grant for culture professionals

Education Minister Prodromos Prodromou said on Thursday that the deadline for applications for the annual student grant for Cypriot residents for the academic year 2019-2020 is extended to May 22 and that a special €900 grant will be given to culture professionals for three months.

Prodromou said yesterday that schools and nurseries will reopen on May 21 and that 20,000 Covid-19 tests will be performed on teachers and pupils before they go back to school.

Speaking to the press following a Ministerial Council meeting on Thursday, he said that the tests will be performed on children, teachers and other school staff across Cyprus and will cover 1/5 of the schools’ population.

“The tests are important as they will tell us if we are truly moving ahead in conditions of hygienic security,” he said.

On culture professionals, Prodromou said that the Council of Ministers has approved a €900 emergency grant for three months.

The applications can be submitted electronically here, where prospective applicants can also find details on the criteria for eligibility.

The platform will remain open until 14:00 on Friday, May 15, 2020.
