Met office: 40 C inland on Friday, temperatures to edge down over weekend

A warm air mass — which has led authorities to issue two extreme high temperature warnings in as many days — will gradually recede over the weekend, while dust will clear tomorrow, the met office said in its early morning bulletin.

Friday will see increased higher cloud, while the afternoon will be mainly fine. Temperatures will rise to 40 C inland, around 34 C on the east coast, around 31 C on the south coast, around 30 C on remaining coasts and around 29 C in the mountains.

A yellow alert is in force from 12 noon to 4 pm on Friday with maximum temperatures inland of 40 C.

Tonight will be mainly fine with increased higher cloud at intervals. Temperatures will fall to 17 C inland, around 18 C on the coasts and around 15 C in the mountains.

Over the weekend and Monday the weather will be mainly fine with some intervals of increased higher cloud.

Temperatures will edge down on Saturday, more noticeably inland and in the mountains, but remain above average for the time of year. No significant change is expected on Sunday while temperatures will rise again on Monday.
